A Cultural Hub Near Sendai's Ancient Castle Site

Director

Located at Tohoku University's Kawauchi Campus, Kawauchi Hagi Hall is the successor of Tohoku University's Matsushita and Memorial Halls. In 2007, the auditorium underwent refurbishment to commemorate Tohoku University's 100th anniversary, acquiring the new name of Kawauchi Hagi Hall along with a fresh new appearance. "Hagi" is the Japanese name for bush clover, a symbol of Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai City. It has also been adopted as Tohoku University's logo.

In refurbishing the building, exteriors of the original theatre were preserved and restored, while the interior has been re-modelled. Architecturally designed to optimize acoustics, the elegant space is perfect for lectures and performances.

Kawauchi Hagi Hall is open to the public and hosts concerts, events and conferences throughout the year. Conveniently located near the new Tozai subway line, the hall is easy to access. We welcome you to join us at one of our many events.
