Purposes

As a global university that works with local communities, we aim to utilize our facilities as a center for local education, academic and cultural activities, and the creation and transmission of culture. In addition, through these activities, we also aim to contribute to the establishment of the academic city of Sendai, and to raise the international profile of Tohoku University.

Initiatives

We collaborate with on-campus facilities such as Sakura Hall and Kawauchi Hagi Hall and off-campus facilities such as Sendai International Center. By doing so, we will provide a base for education and research, and a place for academic and cultural activities.

Grant Support

Sendai Tourism, Convention and International Association provides grant programs for academic conventions, seminars and such held in the city.

◯Grant Support for Conventions
　・International Conventions: up to 5 million yen
　・Domestic Conventions: up to 3 million yen

◯Shuttle Bus Support for Conventions: up to 500,000 yen

◯Grant Support for Small-Scale International Conventions: up to 200,000 yen

◯Loan for Conventions (with no interest): up to 2 million yen

◯Grant Support for Public Seminars: up to 300,000 yen

◯Various Program Offers for Visitors (Omotenashi Menu): up to 100,000 yen

Consultation Service

Tohoku University and Sendai City made an agreement to attract academic conventions and seminars in Sendai. Sendai Tourism, Convention and International Association has a dedicated consultation service for various types of support.

At the association, you can comprehensively discuss how to attract conventions, as well as gain general information of how to attract and hold conventions and seminars.
For example:

（1）Information on venues according to needs, such as the capacity of rooms.
→Sendai International Center, Facilities of Tohoku University, Hotels in Sendai City, etc,.

（2）Offering information on grant support for conventions, accepting applications for the grants
→Up to 5 million yen for international conventions, up to 3 million yen for domestic conventions, etc,.

（3）Information and aid on various programs for visitors (Omotenashi Menu)
→Programs such as Japanese cultural experience, Japanese alchohol (sake) offer, printout service of the program, commemorative items, etc,.

（4）Introduction of Attractions, Unique Venues, and Excursions.
→Oshu Sendai Omotenashi Group Date Bushotai Warriors, Sendai Suzume Odori (Sparrow Dance), Party at Sendai City Museum, Learn about the earthquake disaster, etc,.

（5）Writing support for proposals towards attracting conventions
→You can receive support in preparing a proposal for presentations and such to attract visitors to Sendai.
