The Main Campus of Tohoku University is located in the City of Sendai, about 350km to the north of Tokyo. To come to Tohoku University from Narita International Airport by railway, take the Narita Express (JR) from Narita International Airport to Tokyo Station and transfer to the Tohoku Shinkansen (Super Express) named "Hayate" or "Yamabiko" bound for Sendai. It is also possible to take the Keisei Sky Liner from Narita International Airport to Ueno Station, near Tokyo Station.

Tohoku University has seventeen facilities outside of Sendai-city, in addition to the main campus.
