The Tohoku University 115th Anniversary: Seeking Support for a Greener Future

The year 2022 marks the 115th anniversary of Tohoku University’s foundation. It has also been 100 years since the formation of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, marking the start of our history as a comprehensive university. 

Tohoku University was established with the support of citizenry, business, and local governments. Over the past 115 years, Tohoku University has worked closely with communities to ensure its innovations and breakthroughs make positive impacts upon society. However,our university is now at a crossroads.

In the 10 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, we have led the way in post-disaster reconstruction. In 2021, we declared the “Green Goals Initiative” to help take bolder action towards a greener and sustainable future.

Today, we have set our sights on expanding the Tohoku University Fund to ensure future generations will continue to benefit from our pioneering spirit, and that we continue to deliver world-leading research and education. Donations to the Tohoku University Fund generate sustainable support for our wide-ranging activities and fuel the creation of outstanding research results and the next generation of leaders.
