When arriving in Japan for the very first time, the immense cultural differences are a bit overwhelming. However, the instant I reached Sendai city I started feeling at home. During the summer program, I have come to like the city and all of its friendly inhabitants very much.
I really appreciated the many cultural elements of the program, which contribute greatly to the overall experience. A unique opportunity to gain insight in state-of-the-art academic research topics, alongside having a great time getting to know new friends from both Japan and all over Europe.

Having all of the awesome volunteering Tohoku-students as guides, was a great advantage at both campus and in the free time. Great people who would always know where to go for anything, from seeing regional attractions to having some fun evenings in Sendai city.

Well planned, friendly people, academically challenging, cultural insight & the Tanabata festival, are some of the first keywords to come to my mind when I think back.
Participating in the TESP 2010 at Tohoku University has definitely been one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had. It will not have been my last time in Sendai!
The two weeks of the TESP program were one of the best times I ever spent. They included all I like so much: interesting lessons in Robotics and a culture program in a new country with other sympathetic students from the whole world.
The lessons were held in English and the most of them were subdivided in an introduction and a core parts. While the first part abounded in images and videos, the second included many formulas and new terms. That made sure the level was adapted well for all students.
Visiting “Open Campus”, especially the Robotics- part, made some dreams come true: to dance with a robot of the human size or to stand beside a drummer- robot. Other robots, like space or rescue robots, also demonstrated at the Tohoku University, showed the latest developments in these fields of research.

The culture part was very special particularly for those who were in Japan for the first time, like me. Kimono dressing, sightseeing in Matsushima, Star festival in Sendai: everything was new and not comparable to anything in Europe, in one word: fascinating.
Another important point that made me feel well in Japan was Japanese people in general. Their geniality and helpfulness let me feel secure and welcome in this country.
I really enjoyed this time and I would absolutely recommend participating in this summer program.
With best regards and many thanks to all who organized this program.
